Tired of overpriced language learning products that don't take you to fluency? How to Learn Spanish will show you the free resources you can use to learn Spanish in a fast and fun way. The plan is done for you. All you have to do is follow it to become fluent in Spanish! ✓ Fast - No more sitting in classes. No more waiting years for progress. ✓ Affordable - All you need is an internet connection to access free resources. ✓ Fun - No more verb tables and vocabulary lists. Learn with context. ✓ Convenient - At home. On the go. Learn a language wherever you are. Not only will this comprehensive guide show you how to learn Spanish, it will also teach you the history of the language - from the Celts and Iberians to the present day. If you know about the history of Spanish, you'll have a better understanding of the phrases you learn, and this is why Part One of this guide includes 'A Short History of Language' and 'A Short History of Spanish'. You'll find them both useful and interesting. Despite taking French at school until the age of 18, I was never able to achieve fluency using old-fashioned methods of language learning. Over the past few years, I've settled on a method that makes the process faster, cheaper, and much more enjoyable. The approach I've taken has helped me to learn Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan, German, and Chinese, and it's an approach I'll continue to use to learn other languages. It's an approach that's helped me to enjoy learning languages, something I didn't think was possible back in school. This comprehensive guide can do the same for you. It will show you how to learn Spanish in a matter of months, not years, and it will show you how to do it in an affordable and fun way. In fact, you can learn Spanish for nothing more than the price of an internet connection. Although speaking a new language does not revolutionise how you see the world, the people and cultures it takes you to will. It's almost like discovering the world again as a child, just in a different tongue. It refreshes the mind and can fill you with the impetus to experience different cultures and meet new people. This could be as conveniently as watching telenovelas or reading an Isobel Allende novel in the evening. It could be an experience as spontaneous as chatting with people at a bar in Seville, or before a football match in Buenos Aires. It could even be a whole new life in Mexico or Chile. Follow this proven approach to become fluent in Spanish!

From a young writer trying to win a girl to a boy grappling with confusion about sin, each protagonist in this collection of nine short stories experiences a journey, an encounter, or a revelation that transforms them. In "Rosa's Gift and Other Stories," author Michael Cantwell presents these stories reflecting the joys and sorrows of all stages of human life. In the title story, "Rosa's Gift," Peter Collins, a semiretired commercial artist from New York, visits Guatemala, where he studies Spanish. As he wanders around Antigua, he meets a teenage Mayan indigene, a little girl who sells trinkets to tourists. Peter is inspired to help her get an education. In doing so, he is forced to confront the extreme poverty of Mayan life. "Christmas in the Great Depression" tells the story of Philip Nason, a twelve-year-old boy who wants a bicycle for Christmas. Because of the Depression, his father explains a bicycle is something the family cannot afford. Phil responds by waging a campaign, drawing cartoons promoting his wish and posting them all over the house and on the windshield of his father's car. As Cantwell's characters receive insights that help them meet the challenges of life, he makes each personality and destination come alive, from Depression-era Detroit to a confessional in a dark church in a New England city to the streets of Havana.

A list of almost 300 titles of Spanish language reading materials represents the recommendations of the California Media and Library Educators Association for use with Spanish-speaking, limited-English-proficient students in kindergarten through eighth grade. It is intended as a guide for teachers of Spanish and teachers of English language arts who work with this population. Selections include those originally written in Spanish and tales from the oral Spanish tradition, and comprise a variety of genres, including biography, drama, folklore and mythology, historical fiction, modern fantasy, nonfiction, picture book, poetry, realistic fiction, and science fiction. The materials were selected to appeal to readers with a variety of learning abilities and interests. Citations are divided into three sections, including: core and extended materials, recreational and motivational materials, and dual-text materials. Each entry is annotated and includes an entry type (in the case of core and extended materials), recommended grade span, an indication whether the entry is a translation from another language, and genre. Author and title indexes are also provided. (MSE)
