Marketing Matters provides a methodology for industrial and B2B marketers to maximize the value of marketing. The Carey Price Sensitivity Curve, which allows marketers to measure price sensitivity, makes it possible to conduct a market analysis and simulate different outcomes. This curve shows the importance of price relative to everything else in any properly defined product or service market segment. In addition to explaining how the curve works, this marketing guide will help you: • segment product lines to maximize profits; • navigate geographic differences when selling products and services; • base market segmentation on why it is necessary in the first place; • make the best use of market research. The guide is filled with charts, tables, graphs, and examples to make segmenting easy. You will get a full understanding of how to use segments as well as insights on what drives price sensitivity. By applying the guide’s analysis, you’ll be equipped to improve market performance, estimate how much changes will cost, and determine whether an action is worth taking based on anticipated changes to profitability and market share.

Uniting Europe

With the 2004 enlargement, the European Union (EU) has expanded to twenty-five member states and a total population of 450 million. The new Union faces a daunting policy agenda that includes finalizing the controversial European Constitution, managing further enlargement to countries in southeastern Europe, deciding whether to offer membership to Turkey, overcoming strains over trade, environmental issues, and policy toward the Middle East to build a new, post Cold War relationship with the United States, and making sure that the enlargement itself is a success. In this timely and accessible text, John Van Oudenaren explores how a political and economic union this large and diverse can hold together and accomplish the policy tasks that matter to its citizens: sustaining economic growth, dealing with aging populations and the costs of pensions and health care, raising living standards in poorer regions, preserving the environment, coping with the problems of immigration and political instability on Europe's borders, and facing the challenges of globalization. To reach these goals, the author argues that the EU must build on its existing achievements: the single market, the common currency, and harmonized policies. At the same time, the Union must reform its decision-making processes and find ways to balance the needs of its member states and the competing demands of different interest groups. How the EU will evolve is still unclear; there is no precise blueprint for its future. But the historic attempt to unite Europe will have enormous implications not only for Europe itself, but for the United States as a key ally, trading partner, and, on occasion, rival. By providing an overview of the Union's institutions, laws, and policies, Van Oudenaren provides a solid foundation for understanding its history and emergence as a global economic and political power.

What Made Korea s Rapid Growth Possible

Korea’s experience of rapid economic growth represents both hope and a challenge to many developing countries. The conventional wisdom inside and outside Korea has been that the government’s policies such as export promotion, industrial targeting, and so on, made the rapid growth possible. This book investigates the effects of the policies and concludes that Korea’s growth experience does not corroborate the view. Rather, it points to the tremendous growth in size of the world market as an important factor that has been overlooked in the discussion of nations’ economic growth in the post-World War II era. It was roughly 100 times bigger in the early 1960s than it was in the middle of the First Industrial Revolution. The potential "gains from trade" were that much greater; while the Korean economy had not been realizing the potential gains, it began to as soon as a major reform of the foreign exchange system in 1961 removed the impediments to foreign trade. Explosive export expansion and rapid growth of the economy immediately followed. The "Korean Miracle" may be better understood as a process whereby the economy realized its huge potential.

The Australian legal and regulatory framework for securities markets exhibits a high level of compliance with the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Principles. A few remaining concerns need to be resolved, including some identified in the 2006 assessment. Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s (ASIC) operational independence and sufficiency of resources are overarching concerns which impair its ability to discharge its supervisory functions adequately and effectively across the entire regulated population.

This book, consisting of 17 chapters, focuses on clarifying the challenges, issues, and priorities of Agricultural Education and Training (AET) in sub-Saharan Africa, and provides suggestions for practical solutions that can help guide organisations interested in furthering AET for agricultural development on the continent. It discusses the African context within which a transformed AET system needs to be located; analyses African and international experiences that are relevant to identified AET needs and challenges; dissects AET models that may hold important lessons; and addresses the main critical issues that will impact upon AET in sub-Saharan Africa. The concluding chapter synthesises the ideas, experiences, and evidence from the preceding chapters in order to highlight critical issues for success as well as possible solutions. The book is uniquely positioned to add to a call to action on AET, to pull together state-of-the-art knowledge from within and outside sub-Saharan Africa, and to advance “out of the box” thinking about the principles, values and character of AET for development, with an emphasis on the models that can help to cultivate leaders and change-makers at all levels of the agricultural sector.

This publication aims to inspire budding entrepreneurs in Africa to consider business opportunities in agriculture and agro-industry, broadly defined. It is intended to be a promotional tool, as a sort of call to arms, particularly for women and youth. It also aims to serve as an educational tool and knowledge product in business schools and entrepreneurship incubator programmes for case study-based learning on operating an agribusiness or agro-industry enterprise in Africa. The publication offers guidance to agripreneurs on how to overcome or avoid potential pitfalls and learn from the paths set out by the 12 agripreneurs, whose stories reflect real-life experiences of agribusiness development in Africa. It should be seen as a collection of resources on agripreneurship, focused on these four topical areas: scale, women, youth, and challenging environments, while providing guiding advice for agripreneurs and policy-makers. In addition to educating entrepreneurs, it is important to highlight the fundamental role of policy-makers in shaping the enabling environment for agripreneurship. In this context, the publication aims to provide concrete policy recommendations on how to improve the enabling environment for agripreneurship, based on the advice of the 12 agripreneurs featured here. The aim is to guide policy-makers to improve these targeted areas, and inspire them to do so by providing accounts of successful agripreneurs who have built businesses with positive economic, social and environmental impacts on national development.
