The Whale and His Captors is an important firsthand account of the golden age of American whaling, chronicling both its lore and science as practiced from the inception of the fishery to the mid-1800s. Late in the composition of Moby-Dick, Herman Melville found inspiration in Cheever and his writings that would provide the final flourishes for one of America's classic novels. After exhausting other whaling sources - Beale, Scoresby, Bennett, and Browne - Melville turned to Cheever for chapter titles and organization as well as passages that helped shape, define, and elucidate his great work. This is the first scholarly edition of The Whale and His Captors, accompanied by an introduction and apparatus that clearly elucidates Cheever's treatise on whaling and demonstrates how his writings contributed both to the course of American literature and to our burgeoning understanding of literature's engagement with the natural world.

This little book is about loving God and appreciating the wonders of His magnificent creations. God has given us, by the works of His hands, an amazing world to enjoy. You will be viewing His marvelous creations through the eyes of a young whale named Auggie and his mother. It is an adventure inspired by the Holy Spirit, for children to know God, in and through all His creation. "For by Him all things were created, both in heaven and on earth" Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me." So, let them come and see God in a new way, and know that "God is good." I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did in writing it and illustrating it. In His name and love.

It's a great way to spark your child's imagination. The pictures are simple and tend to capture the children's way of thinking, which gives a special tone to the book. It is a definite must for your child's library. Simple moral lesson in this children's book is very relevant for both the young and old to realize that people are not all the same either. It stresses that it's okay to be different. This book with it's colorful illustrations, encourages children to be creative and just learn to enjoy what each has to offer. Before publishing I gave the story to some friends who works in a kindergarten and primary school to see if the kids love the story. The result was amazing. The kids really liked it and they drew illustrations that I include in the book. The illustrations of the kids from kindergarten add a special touch.

It's come to my attention that the old girl's a little bit past her best. And I can hardly maintain my reputation as a terror of the high seas with bits falling off the boat all the time, can I? The Pirate Captain is in trouble. Eager to appease his crew with a boat that has a functioning mast, fewer holes and cannons that actually fire, he splashes out on the fancy new Lovely Emma, spending six thousand doubloons he doesn't have. Finding themselves in debt to the beautiful but deadly Cutlass Liz - or the butcher of Barbados, as she's otherwise known - the pirates need to raise some money fast. In a desperate race against time our heroes embark on an adventure that will take them from the shores of Nantucket to the bright lights of Las Vegas, to the ends of the earth in search of a mythical white whale, and even, perhaps, into the dark depths of madness. But hopefully they'll be home in time for tea.
